Domains of One’s Own… it’s just a website right?

I left #DigPINS and started the fall semester, a new course, a global seminar– African Wildlife Conservation and Health. I had all of sorts of ideas bouncing around in the back of my head, things about digital literacy, domains, and scholarship. I had no real intent of implementing any of those concepts into my new course, until part way through the semester when a colleague used the term “disposable assignments.”

EVOLUTION OF FSL OVER THE YEAR

Attending the 2019 Domains Conference by Reclaim Hosting on June 10th and 11th has made me realize how much progress has been made on Full Spectrum Learning (FSL). When Ruthie and I first started on the FSL team, many things were different or didn’t exist. The main changes include the grid, the website, and the interactive grid videos.

It was my senior year of high school when I received an email from Saint Norbert College regarding Research Fellowship opportunities. Intrigued, I examined the list and saw a link for the Full Spectrum Learning Research Fellowship for education majors. An application and an interview with the President of the Education Program at Saint Norbert […]

If you have been following along on my research journey, you know how unexpected my role in this project was, but my gratitude for the experience can’t be properly expressed. First, the original position was listed for an education major (I’m a computer science major), so I didn’t even think to apply. I ended up […]

Introduction – Contextualization, pre planning, reflection on #DigPINS, defining the project and reason for the proposal:The original reason for the proposal was to post student work online so that everyone with web access could see the work that students were creating in my special topics …

My favorite quote that I tell my students every semester is from Mike Tyson – “everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.” Usually it means that not everything goes to plan and it highlights the need for critical thinking and flexibility …

I came to the #DigPINS experience through the back door, so to speak. I had ideas for modifying my Spanish 389 special topics course titled “Murder, Mystery and Mayhem: Contemporary Latin American Crime Fiction and Film” to enhance student learning and increase student interest in …

The Project COME 352: Media Effects is a course focused on the field of media psychology. Within the course, students learn about social scientific research, which also addresses core curriculum goals. One of the key formative assessments in the course is a series of reading …

For Leadership Studies 363 I hoped to infuse a fairly traditional pedagogy with some technological tools/enhancements in part to make the content feel more contemporary, and in part to build a new set of writing skills for students enrolled in the class. I made some …

Project Synthesis and Rationale             I added a new assessment piece to my Human Anatomy and Histology course, called Intellectual Engagement Activities (IEA) to enhance student engagement with the material. In the past, students have waited too long to study for the anatomy exams (the …

For my #DigPINS implementation project, I added blogs to my Spanish 300 course, a course which focuses on developing students’ communication skills, both verbal and written, while also enhancing their knowledge of Hispanic cultures. My section of this course incorporated service learning in its curriculum, …

The original proposal for the #DigPINS project was to create an online assignment. However, given the current global situation, all my courses suddenly transitioned to online teaching. I immediately started exploring new methods to communicate and collaborate with students. I recorded lectures, scheduled video meetings, …

As I worked to incorporate the IPad (GoodNotes in particular) more often into Music Theory, I put off recording a video featuring its implementation. Then, as is often the case, it was the end of the semester and I missed my opportunity. Thankfully I had …

Building digital competencies is important for all our students, and especially so for marketing (among many other disciplines). Marketing is becoming increasingly digital, and marketing programs need to update their curriculum in order to give students the skills necessary to respond to the changing industry …

#DigPINS 2019

My #DigPINS Journey When I joined the summer 2019 DigPINS cohort I had a morsel of an idea to create a hybrid online/in person course to offer during May term.  As a result of careful contemplation of the readings and fellow DigPIN-er blog posts, I …
